“The pandemic has reinforced our
decision as a company to make a digital
transformation,” he said. “We were able to
identify early on (pre-pandemic) that we
needed to change the way we go to market
to keep up with the changing times,
technology and the needs of today’s B2B
buyers. We have spent all of 2020 working
on a new online platform to be launched in
January 2021.”
This platform allows customers to log in,
check pricing and availability, get quotes,
create shopping lists, place orders and have
their products arrive onsite without having
to step foot in Pacific Rubber’s facility – all
from their office, phone or home.
“It will also allow us to have specific market
segments highlighted for the consumers,
including a pile driving section with
an array of products centered around the
industry and its consumers,” said Merritt.
Pacific Rubber has also instituted
a number of employee safety measures.
These include six-foot-deep counters, plexiglass
partitions, mandatory PPE in all of its
facilities, regular cleaning intervals multiple
times throughout the day in the facility
and vehicles, employee temperature
checks and, when possible, employees
working remotely.
PDCA membership and the future
Pacific Rubber became a PDCA member in
2020, a move the company wanted to make
since the pile driving industry has been
such a big part of its business for more than
30 years.
“Since joining the Alaska Rubber Group,
training, personal and professional growth
have been a big focus for us. Joining PDCA
will help us to learn and grow as individuals
and as a company,” said Merritt. “We will
also be able to reach a larger group of manufacturers
and contractors that may benefit
from our products and services, helping us
grow our business.”
As for what the next few years hold,
he said, “We hope to be involved within
the pile driving community, network with
manufacturers and contractors across the
country, promote our new line of pile driving
hose and make new partnerships within
the community.” t
