Employees at Cajun Industries
subvert potential catastrophe
According to a post on the company’s
LinkedIn page, Cajun Industries employees
Jacob Clark and Mark Waguespack exercised
their Stop Work Authority and prevented
a major catastrophe on a project site
in Louisiana.
The text from the LinkedIn post by
Cajun reads:
“Cajun would like to recognize Jacob
Clark and Mark Waguespack for exercising
their Stop Work Authority on a recent project at Valero St. Charles.
On Oct. 27, Jacob and Mark elected to stop piling installation next
to an underground hydrogen line, even after being directed to continue
by the pipeline representative. Jacob then located the underground
line directly below the pile location with a probe rod. The
line was mismarked, five feet away from the actual location. Had
the line ruptured, it would have delivered a blast causing serious
injury or death. Thank you, Jacob and Mark, for using your Stop
Work Authority!”
Keller announces the
creation of Keller Women
in Construction
Keller recently announced the
creation of Keller Women in
Construction (KWIC). As part
of Keller’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work
environment, an employee resource group, KWIC has been created.
KWIC is a company-wide initiative that offers women an
opportunity to share thoughts, resources and ideas to promote
members need to know
professional development within the organization and construction
industry. KWIC sponsors events including webinars,
networking functions, mentoring and community outreach to
local schools.
“We want women to see that they can maximize their full
potential at Keller by creating a more inclusive environment where
they feel supported, respected and heard,” said Joy Oseni, chair of
the KWIC steering committee.
President of Keller North America James Hind pledged his full
support for this initiative.
“Whilst we are committed to diversity and inclusiveness,
women remain underrepresented amongst both Keller employees
and the construction industry,” said Hind. “I fully believe the formation
of KWIC is a significant step in addressing this issue.”
Editor’s note: Issue 2 2021 of PileDriver, available in April, will
include a feature length article about Keller Women in Construction.
