Proud of
PDCA
By Jason Moore, President, PDCA Hello, friends. I hope this edition of PileDriver finds you and yours safe, productive
and profitable.
To say the least, it’s been an interesting first half of 2020. Our thoughts and
prayers continue to be with the families of those physically impacted by the coronavirus
and with our member companies that find themselves with uncertainty in the short term
as the industry and market navigate choppy waters.
Let’s talk about this “uncertainty” and unpack a little about how we’ve dealt with it at
PDCA. I’m compelled to say that I’m proud of our staff. As mentioned in the last issue, we
can choose to be paralyzed by the uncertainty around us, or we can use the pause as a
time to invest in our people and processes so that we’re prepared to take advantage of new
opportunities. Our staff has used the time in quarantine to strengthen their processes,
improve technology and expand our “tool belt.”
As evidence of that growth, PDCA hosted and produced its very first webinar in May.
With more than 100 people registered, the program served as an introduction and review
of the new Steel Sheet Pile Guides. Thank you to staff and our team of presenters for your
efforts and expertise.
While we are excited for the day that we can once again gather in person safely, the
future of PDCA will include the use of virtual platforms to provide education and connection
opportunities as a supplement to future conference offerings. Please don’t hesitate to
contact the PDCA staff or Education Committee with your thoughts and ideas regarding
future webinar topics. Investing resources into online education opportunities is one way
that PDCA will add value to its member companies in 2020 and beyond, and your input
is very important to us.
We currently have plans underway to convert both Annual Conference and DICEP presentations
into a series of webinars and virtual programs. We will announce any upcoming
webinars in PileDriver, the monthly Pile of News e-newsletter, on www.piledrivers.org
and through PDCA’s social media channels on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.
Project of the Year Awards
One of my favorite responsibilities of the past six months was the opportunity to review
the 2020 Project of the Year submissions. PDCA members are industrious, and they are
problem solvers. Thanks to the many companies that submitted entries, and congratulations
to our winners! Most of all, I was reminded that each of our projects present unique
challenges that are worth sharing. When the 2021 Project of the Year call for entries is
announced, I hope that you’ll take the time to tell the story of your company’s project(s)
and your team’s successes. While not every project can walk away with a win, every entry
is highlighted at some point in PileDriver magazine. What a fantastic way to acknowledge
the efforts of our most important asset – our people!
Read about this year’s Project of the Year winners, starting on page 52 of this issue of
PileDriver. I know you’ll be as impressed as I was with the caliber of entries submitted by
PDCA members.
More thoughts on the first half of my PDCA presidency
As I reflect on the past six months, and the efforts of the Board of Directors and numerous
conversations with members and staff, a single word consistently comes to my
mind: Ownership.
