methods. Due to the owner’s vibration concerns associated with
the adjacent plant equipment, the conventional method of sheet
pile installation with vibratory hammers would not be allowed.
Luckily, Cajun had the perfect piece of equipment in their fleet to
get the job done. Cajun began mobilization of their Giken F401-
1400 Silent Piler, which is a reaction-based machine that hydraulically
presses sheet piles without excessive noise or vibrations.
Again, Cajun was back in full swing on the PO/TBA Project with
the Giken Silent Piler quietly pressing in 520 wall feet of 40-foot
long PZC-26 sheet piles. This cofferdam was reinforced with
W36x262 waler beams and W18x75 corner braces after sheet
pile installation.
Ultimately, Cajun completed the PO/TBA project on November
15, having worked more than 43,000 man-hours with zero recordables.
Due to Cajun’s world-class safety record, impeccable attention
to performing quality work and drive to getting the work done
in a timely manner, Cajun has also been requested to provide
design-build solutions for an additional sump and firewater intake
structure in LyondellBasell’s CVO South Facility. t
