Tim Fogarty talks about
his experience with
the PDCA of the
Northeast Chapter
CHAPTER CONNECTIONS
Tim Fogarty has worked at
New Jersey’s George Harms
Construction for 18 years, ever
since he joined the company as a summer
intern while attending college. He is currently
a field superintendent and working
on the company’s Rt. 7 Hackensack
Wittpenn Bridge project.
Now in its 60th year of business, George
Harms Construction specializes in difficult
heavy construction jobs, self-performing
the majority of its work, including deep
foundations. Many projects the company
takes on call for the installation of driven
piles, including precast concrete piles,
pipe piles, H-piles, timber piles, sheet piles,
king pile walls, driven soldier pile walls
and many driven support of excavation
walls. George Harms Construction has
driven piles to support buildings, bridge
abutments and piers, catenary pole footings,
utilities, monorail footings, ground
improvement piles, boardwalks, pump stations
and sign structure footings.
Fogarty is the president of the PDCA of
the Northeast Chapter and believes that all
companies in the chapter’s area involved in
the driven pile industry have something to
gain from participating.
How long have you been a member of
the PDCA of the Northeast Chapter?
I have been directly involved with PDCA
for the past eight years, but George Harms
Construction has been a PDCA contractor
member since the ‘90s.
Do you attend chapter events?
I attend all of the events put on by the
Northeast Chapter. My favorite events are
our annual skeet shoot and our dinner
meetings. The dinner meetings are always
very interesting; we usually have a speaker
talk about equipment, safety, engineering,
etc. The best thing about those meetings,
for me, is the social time to connect with
our competitors as well as the suppliers and
engineers involved in our industry.
The chapter also hosts an annual professional
development course, which is very
informative. There are usually case studies
presented and it’s an opportunity to
learn from the experiences of other industry
experts.
