Real-time Dynamic
Load Testing
Dynamic load testing (DLT) is a
quick, efficient method to provide
verification of pile capacity and
integrity by applying impact force
on the pile top while monitoring the
pile response using a Pile Driving
Analyzer (PDA). Combined with
static tests, the DLT addresses
site variability and allows a more
economical design. The PDA
monitors pile stresses to help avoid
installation damage and provides
real-time feedback on capacity.

The company has been involved in numerous impressive projects over the past two decades. One
of these is a project where the team drove a 54-inch diameter, up to 140 feet long, concrete cylinder
pile for the I-95 bridge over Trout River in Jacksonville for the Florida Department of Transportation.
Comprehensive safety program
The company has long prided itself on its
comprehensive safety program aimed to
eliminate accidents on jobsites.
“We treat our employees as in a family
atmosphere and maintain a safe work
environment,” said Tolbert. “We believe in
proactive management of our safety programs
ranging from aerial platforms, fall
protection, confined space and crane safety,
to name a few. We engage all employees
weekly with Tailgate Meetings and daily
using Job Hazard Analysis. We are proud
to have more than two years with no lost
time accidents.”
Hal Jones Contractor became a PDCA
member in 2014 and is pleased about its
collaboration with the association.
“We plan to continue exposing our
name and services to new customers as
we have developed business relationships
with other companies within our field of
work through PDCA,” said Tolbert. “We
have a wide, diverse client base and will
continue to pursue heavy civil marine work
throughout northeast Florida and southeast
Georgia.”
Navigating COVID-19
When asked how the company is faring
with the current worldwide coronavirus
pandemic, Tolbert is thankful that so far,
they have no infected employees.
“We have had most of the office personnel
working from home. All the jobs have
been running smoothly, so that has been
a blessing. The crews have incorporated
some new routines such as disinfecting the
equipment daily, wearing their face coverings
or masks, practicing social distancing
whenever possible, and keeping cleaning
agents close at hand. Our safety manager
also makes daily site visits as well to offer
any help and make sure the new routines
are working as they should.” t
