“It also accelerated the schedule of the project, since the
contractor wasn’t having to move the mats around, which then
made the owners very happy as well,” said Juneau. “It turned
out great.”
Expanding market
Most of Premier’s driven pile work is in for petrochemical projects
in the industrial sector, an area the company has focused on growing
for the past year or so.
At the beginning, Premier’s main focus was on private land
development projects for the housing market. Juneau and Engen
had more than enough work coming in and were doing very well,
but they came to realize that it’d be better for their business in the
long run if they also branched out into other sectors.
“I’d say that within probably nine months, Mike and I were looking
at each other and saying, ‘This is great, we have all this work,’”
said Engen. “But this is a market that can be fickle, and if it slow
downs, we could be in trouble. And so we started thinking pretty
early on about how we can diversify the projects and the markets
that we were in.”
Since then, Premier has started taking on municipal, commercial
and industrial projects, and is looking to expand into the highway
construction market.
“It was a challenge to hurry up and open up new business in
some other sectors. But now in the current environment we’re in
with its very, very unique challenges, it is really helping us out,”
said Engen.
Premier is also looking to expand their market reach beyond
southeastern Louisiana.
“Just because we have an office location in Baton Rouge doesn’t
mean we’re tied here. We will travel and can go wherever our
