COMPREHENSIVE
DEEP
FOUNDATION
Tadano Mantis’ 130-ton powerhouse worked on the 85/385 Gateway Project in Greenville,
S.C. for more than two years, performing many applications. Joint venture contractor Flatiron-
Zachry began construction in early 2016 on this project that is expected to result in a signature
infrastructure project that will make a positive difference. In an article, Flatiron-Zachry Equipment
Manager Perry Taggart said the crane’s versatility has been a key to the project’s success, and that
the efficiency of the 155-foot, full-power telescoping boom has been just as important. The project
is expected to be completed this year.

Construction Equipment to see if they
would be interested in partnering with
Tadano Mantis at CONEXPO 2020 to display
one of their vibratory hammers on
our crane in the booth,” said Etue. “Many
customers have asked if they could run pile
hammers off the hydraulics of the crane,
and the continued collaboration led to this
exciting opportunity.”
CONEXPO is North America’s largest
construction trade show representing
asphalt, aggregates, concrete, earthmoving,
lifting, mining, utilities and more.
The engineering groups from Tadano
Mantis and ICE® worked together to come
up with the precise size hammer to display
on a GTC-900 in the Tadano Booth (F-8004),
where it could operate without the requirement
of an auxiliary power pack. The ICE®
Model 14D displayed with the GTC-900 will
be connected directly to the hydraulic system
of the crane.
An additional request from pile driving
customers is the ability to mount the power
pack on the rear of the crane for larger hammer
applications (substituting for some or
all of the counterweight system on the rear
of the crane). This concept is not new for
the company.
“Our engineering group has worked in
the past with contractors to qualify which
size power pack can be mounted on the rear
of the crane and help engineer and design an
appropriate size mounting plate,” said Etue.
What’s next?
As for what the next two to five years holds,
the company will continue to expand.
“We are continuing to work on new
developments that enhance the value of the
cranes to our current markets, while growing
the appeal of tele-boom crawlers to new
customers,” said Fuller. t
