Rapid Fire Get to know Chris Pashkevich
The Nationals winning the World Series championship this past
season was an especially proud moment for Pashkevich as he had
a hand in building the stadium.
“I’ve got pictures of that stadium that no one else has,” he said.
“I sat in the dugout and took pictures of them laying sod, that was
fun. When they were setting up the levels, I got pictures from up
there with the capital in the background.”
With 26,000 pictures currently on his phone, photography has
always been one of Pashkevich’s hobbies and many of his subjects
are his construction projects. Taking after his father, who has photos
of pile driving jobs dating back to the early ’50s, he has books
and books of photos.
His photos are proof of many changes since the start of his
career – with one key change being safety. On top of bans on

asbestos and lead paint that came into effect in the 1980s, regulation
has become more rigorous with rollover protection distances,
implementing a full body harness rather than just a safety belt,
and daily site safety inspections.
“The whole industry has changed,” he said. “It makes it a much
better place to work, much safer. At Clark Construction, safety is
always our number one priority.”
As Pashkevich approaches the end stages of his career, he sees
himself staying in Maryland with his family. He’s not sure when
exactly he will retire. It may be in the next few years, but he thinks
his younger brother may beat him to retirement. Having worked
in the industry his entire adult life, Pashkevich takes immense
pride in his work. t

Favorite sports team: Washington Nationals
Dogs or cats: I’ve got a dog right now. It’s a white
West Highland Terrier. I drink these sodas all the
time called Pibb Xtra – so my dog’s name is Mr.
Pibb. My wife named him that after me.
Favorite movie: Back to the Future. I love that
movie. I laugh just thinking about the first one, I
watched it over and over again.
