CELEBRATING
•• Ability to pick and carry all loads with a
fixed, rigid and stable boom
•• Faster set-up and tear down time; able to
self-erect onsite without an assist crane;
less trucks and manpower
•• Ability to quickly and easily change boom
lengths “on the job” without needing the
space, crew and disruption caused by
changing a lattice boom length
•• Ability to operate with limited counterweight
for minimum ground pressure
•• Tracks Retracted load charts are available.
With OPTI-WIDTH, there is infinite
track positions available; able to work in
tight quarters, lane closures, etc.
•• Mantis cranes are built to climb steep
slopes and have the lowest centers of
gravity of any mobile crane of equivalent
capacity
•• Mantis cranes are factory approved for
foundation equipment, such as vibratory,
hydraulic or diesel hammers and other
ground-engaging equipment
•• Ability to do close-up to low headroom
work and short overall machine length
for onsite moves without dissembling
the boom
Tadano Mantis regional business manager
Greg Etue says their cranes are ideally
suited for foundation applications and
are becoming the new go-to machines for
heavy civil/road and bridge construction.
“They are more maneuverable than
a traditional lattice boom crawler crane
and allow the contractor to maximize productivity
in confined jobsites where space
is a premium,” he said. “Tadano Mantis
approves pile driving applications on its
models, with direct factory support for all
types of foundation equipment.”
The company’s full-power booms have
cylinders designed to hoist and telescope
the full published load chart. The cylinders
have larger diameters than other telescopic
booms, and consequently the loading
imposed from vibratory hammers results
in lower induced pressures in the cylinders.
“This leads to long seal life, even in
extreme applications,” said Etue. “And
because of these innovations, added dampener
balls are not required.”
Cranes on display at CONEXPO
The company has continued to receive
inquiries from road and bridge contractors
to see if they could run pile driving equipment
on its cranes.
