Pile Driving Inspectors
Course
PDCA hosted this one-day course in
Vancouver, B.C. earlier this year
PDCA presented this one-day course
on June 26, 2014 at the Hilton Vancouver
Airport Hotel in Vancouver,
B.C., Canada. The course was designed for
those who inspect pile driving operations
during the construction of foundations and
major structures. The course covered topics
ranging from the inspector’s role, site
investigation, test pile programs, methods
of testing pile, documents specific to the
pile inspector, establishing and monitoring
the driving criteria and pile acceptance and
much more.
This year the course was instructed
by Bill Marczewski, P.E., principal and
founder of BSM Engineering, Inc. and
Pat Hannigan, P.E., president of GRL
Engineers, Inc. Bill has a bachelor’s degree
in civil engineering from Washington State
University with a curriculum emphasis in
structural and geotechnical engineering.
He is a licensed professional engineer in
California, Oregon, Washington, Maine
and Florida and has a diverse work history
experience, including design and construction
of major bridge structures; low,
medium and high-rise building structures;
and significant marine structure experience.
Pat has a bachelor’s degree in civil
engineering from the University of Notre
Dame, and a Masters in civil engineering
from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He
is a licensed professional engineer in 17
states, has published in numerous journals
and was the principal investigator for both
the 1995 and the 2006 editions of the
Federal Highway Administration manual,
Design and Construction of Driven Pile
Foundations.
This year’s Vancouver course saw 35
pdca event
attendees from all over North America.
Each attendee received a Certificate of
Completion and eight professional development
hours towards their continuing
education. After 7.5 hours of intense educational
submersion, attendees were given
the opportunity to pose questions to the
instructors during the general discussion
portion of the course. The Q&A is the
most exciting portion of the course as it
displays the high level of engagement from
each attendee.
PDCA plans to host another Pile
Driving Inspectors Course in the spring
of 2015. Please check the PDCA website
in the near future for more information on
dates and locations. If you have questions
