The PDCA of South Carolina
Chapter conducted its third quarter
meeting at the Town and Country
Inn in Charleston on Sept. 9. The
highlight of the evening was the presentation
of three Pioneer Awards.
The Pioneer Awards were presented
to three individuals that have made
significant contributions to the driven
pile industry in South Carolina
and been supportive of the South Carolina Chapter.
The first award was presented to Anthony “Tin” DuPre,
former president of Cape Romain Contractors. Cape Romain
Contractors was founded in 1946. DuPre became president
of the company in 1979 and led the company for many years
through a variety of challenging marine and infrastructure
projects.
The second award was presented to Martha Johnson,
one of the founders and owners of Soil Consultants, Inc. Soil
Consultants, founded in 1951, is devoted to geotechnical testing
and engineering, environmental consulting and materials
testing.
The third award was presented to W.B. Cox, founder of
Cox Wood Industries. Cox Wood Industries, founded in 1954,
distributes treated wood products, including timber piles,
throughout the eastern United States and overseas.
The South Carolina Chapter’s next scheduled meeting will
be Tuesday, December 2, 2014.
▼▼PDCA OF THE GULF COAST CHAPTER
The Gulf Coast Chapter
hosted their third quarter
meeting on Thursday,
Aug. 21 at Messina’s
Restaurant in Kenner,
La. The featured speaker
was Jonathan Tremier of
Pile Hammer Equipment,
who provided an overview
of the Vulcan Single-Compound Air Hammer. The hammer
uses less air than other air hammers of comparable energy and
has a much simpler design. The only moving part on the hammer
is the ram. The hammer is available in three-, four- and
five-foot stroke models.
The Gulf Coast Chapter’s next meeting will be Thursday,
Nov. 13, 2014.
▼▼PDCA OF THE PACIFIC COAST CHAPTER
The PDCA Pacific Coast
Chapter held their annual
scholarship dinner at the Dead
Fish Restaurant in Crockett,
Calif. on Aug. 7. They awarded
scholarships to two recipients,
who were each given $1,500
toward their college education.
The first recipient was Ray
P A C I F I C C O A S T
Pippin, who is currently in his
last year at California State University Sacramento. He is studying
construction management and is expected to graduate in
May 2015. Pippin has interned as a project engineer for Flint
Builders in Roseville, Calif.
The second recipient was Alex Kung, who is a returning
recipient from 2013. He is currently attending California
Polytechnic State University, studying civil engineering and
spent last summer working in Kiecon’s yard in Antioch, Calif.
Kiecon is a concrete pile fabricator and PDCA member.
