Pile Load Testing
Options Course
PDCA presented the second Pile Load Testing Options
course to over 40 attendees in Sacramento, Calif. on Aug.
21, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.
This unique PDCA course provided detailed information on
the various pile load testing methods, including static, rapid and
dynamic load testing. Course presenters included Brent Robinson
(GRL Engineers – Dynamic), Van Komurka (Wagner Komurka
Geotechnical Group – Static) and Byrl Williams (Foundation
Constructors – Rapid). As a supplement to the load testing section
of the course agenda, Van Komurka discussed the positive aspects
of a well-designed load test plan – “Why Load Test,” and an overview
of all load testing methods, axial compression, bidirectional,
axial tension and lateral types of load tests.
The course concluded with a presentation by Komurka discussing
how load testing can pay off through safety and resistance
factor considerations; permissible material stresses; and soil and
pile set up – a driven pile condition Komurka has studied extensively.
Finally, the 3 speakers participated in an interactive panel session
with the audience to answer any remaining questions.
PDCA would like to thank PDCA of the Pacific Coast
Chapter and the Sacramento Section of the Geo-Institute of the
ASCE as Cooperating Sponsors for the program.
PDCA would also like to thank Foundation Constructors,
Inc. for their generous sponsorship of the program luncheon. t
