THE INSIDE SCOOP ON EDUCATION CREDITS
Have you ever wondered, “Where am I with my education credits?”
“How many education credits do I need in order to petition
the Certified Club Manager (CCM) exam?”
“How do I accumulate association credits?”
Here is more information to help you on your journey towards
your CCM designation:
The requirements
300 credits (broken down as follows):
• 200 Education credits, which must include a minimum of
the following:
- 100 National Education credits
- 25 Branch Education credits
• 50 Association Activity credits
• 50 additional credits that may include a mix of the above as
well as Other Education credits, which are allocated for education
programs outside CSCM or CMAA
Membership
Six years of membership in CSCM is required. Those pursuing
the designation may be associate members but must be an active
member at the time of petitioning the exam.
CMAA has introduced the ability to substitute professional
experience for years of membership as outlined in the following
policy:
An application may be made to the Certification Committee
to substitute three years of professional experience for one
year of CSCM membership in order to meet this requirement.
A maximum of nine years of experience for three
years of CSCM membership is allowed.
Professional experience for a club manager for the purpose
of this policy is defined as “substantial private club industry and/
or luxury hotel and resort experience with management and/or
supervisory experience and progressive professional advancement.”

Types of credits
• National Education – Education activities produced by CSCM
such as conferences, pre-conference CMIs, BMIs taken in
Canada and CMAA conferences. Two national conferences/
CMIs are required before petitioning the exam. As well, the
completion of BMI Club Management, Leadership Principles,
GM/COO are required and an additional elective, either Food
and Beverage Management, Golf Management or Sports
and Recreation Management. Information about all of the
BMIs may be found on the CSCM website under Education >
Professional Development.
• Branch Education – Education activities produced by the
Branch and may include a variety of topics based on CMAA
core competencies.
• Other Education – This can include a variety of education activities
that a member has pursued on their own. This may include
undergraduate/graduate degrees, teaching, BMIs offered by the
CMAA and Allied Association credits. A petition form for Allied
Association Credits is required to submit for other education.
• Association Activity – This category of credit includes renewing
membership, registering for conferences, participating in
Branch or National business meetings, being a member of the
Branch or National Board, having an article published and
being a featured speaker at a conference.
