Harbor project and challenges
Specific to the pile driving industry, Castellanos says IPC is currently
working on a wet marine for the Heroica Escuela Naval
Militar at Veracruz for the Mexican Navy.
“The project consists of two fixed docks encompassing 150
(60cm by 60cm) concrete piles and a floating dock, with 64 steel
piles in different diameters. At the moment, we are reinforcing a
400-meter-long dock where 216 piles are being installed at the Port
of Manzanillo, Colima,” he said. “The first dock is a fixed dock that
is 110 meters long, and the second dock is 55 meters long. One of
the floating docks has a capacity of 112 boat embarkations, and
each harbor has electricity, drinking water and diesel installations.”
Castellanos says the biggest challenge on this project was the
delivery time. The team had only 60 days to construct the harbors.
“We also had to fabricate and sink 105 piles (60cm by 60cm,
28.75 meters long) in 30 days, which included bouts of bad weather,
with days that included gusts of winds over 100 km/hour and
tidal variation.”
In addition to its reputation as a strong and reliable contractor,
Castellanos says safety is of the utmost importance to IPC.
“We have skilled operators who handle all machinery maneuvers
and supervision in the field to avoid any hazards and to ensure
everyone is wearing safety gear. Our safety record is excellent. We
have had no accidents on the site and we want to keep it that way.”
As for what the near future holds, Castellanos says he wants
IPC to continue to be a leader in maritime and ground work construction
across Mexico.
“We also want an international presence and projects overseas.”
