SAFETY
Sedotal says that the company’s decision to implement a
SSW program in 2016 was born out of a tragedy that occurred
two years previously.
“In 2014, we had a fatality on a project in Baytown, Texas,
and that really initiated a change here at GROUP from the top
down,” said Sedotal. Discussions with safety consultants, as
well as some of the company’s industry partners, led to a goal of
zero injuries and incidents and the adoption of measures – like
the SSW program and other safety initiatives – to make that
happen.
According to Rusich, similar SSW programs have been
used by industrial contractors in their region for years.
“It was just a matter of taking the basics of those programs
and tailoring them to fit GROUP,” he said.
During the strategic planning process at GROUP, safety
was not only brought to the forefront, but there were a number
of other core values established as well, including a commitment
to integrity, exceeding expectations and teamwork.
“These core values are what hold us together, if you will,”
said Sedotal. “It is what GROUP stands for and why we get out
of bed every morning.” t
