High capacity timber piles support
new Charleston hotel

The City of Charleston, S.C., is experiencing tremendous
growth both in new residents and visitors. With growth
comes the need for additional hotel space. Palas Hospitality,
the owner of several hotels in the Charleston area, recognized that
need and took the opportunity to construct a new Home2 Suites hotel.
The Home2 Suites features rooms with a kitchen and living area for
extended stay travelers who prefer the comforts of home.
The site of the new hotel is located west of downtown Charleston on
US-17 near the intersection with Interstate 526. The building’s design
called for a relatively narrow, L-shaped, five-story structure to best utilize
the space available for construction.
Coastal Engineering & Testing, of North
Charleston, S.C., conducted a geotechnical
investigation at the site and found the soils
