Established in 2001 and with several
thousand projects under its proverbial
tool belt, Seismic Surveys Inc.
(SSI) has gained a stellar reputation across
the eastern United States.
The company provides a full range of
high-quality geoscience consulting services
to customers in the engineering, construction,
mining, demolition and explosives
industries. As specialists in measuring, analyzing
and controlling ground vibration and
sound pressure effects, the company helps
customers meet regulatory compliance,
achieve positive public relations and protect
against vibration-related damage claims.
The company was formed by husband
and wife team David and Elena Miller in
the basement of their house in Frederick,
Md. At that time, there were two additional
employees (and a cat named Otto, who was
the unofficial company mascot). Since 2001,
the company has moved out of the basement
and grown to four offices in three states
along the Eastern Seaboard. SSI currently
has 19 employees.
“The business was originated with the
mission of providing the pile driving, construction,
demolition, blasting and mining
industries with liability protection against
unwarranted claims of vibration damage
and to assist those customers in preventing
damage to third parties,” said SSI president,
David K. Miller, P.G.
As a specialty consultant, SSI focuses
on providing two niche services: 1) vibration
and noise monitoring and control; and 2)
pre-and post-construction structure inspections
of adjacent structures. Over the years,
Seismic monitoring at the National Museum
of African American History and Culture in
Washington, D.C. Clark Foundations was the
pile driving contractor on this project.
