When projects require a strong foundation, owners
and general contractors look to McCrossin Foundations
to get the job done. Working from offices
in Pittsburgh, Hershey and Philadelphia, McCrossin Foundations
has earned a reputation as a foundations solutions provider
with strong expertise in a wide range of technical drilling and
foundation capabilities throughout the Northeast, Ohio Valley
and Mid-Atlantic regions.
McCrossin Foundations’ machinery includes large and
small diameter rigs, lattice-boom crawler style cranes, rough
terrain hydraulic cranes and equipment for driven piles, marine
construction, restricted access drilling and concrete pumping/
shotcrete. These track-mounted and agile machines work in difficult
locations, tough terrain and in headroom as low as eight feet.
A recent highway project showcases McCrossin
Foundations’ ability to move their equipment in and out of
tight locations and get the job done. According to project manager
Matt Turko, McCrossin Foundations was subcontracted
to provide driven piles on five new bridges along the Pittsburgh
Southern Beltway, a 13-mile project designed to alleviate traffic
congestion to the airport.
“We were able to overcome considerable challenges in order
to complete our portion of the project,” said Turko. He says that
getting the equipment into place and accessing materials was
difficult given the terrain and site dimensions.
At one site, they were faced with a geotechnical concern
where they had to probe layered sandstone to find solid bed rock.
